4th NW SRN Annual Conference PDF Print E-mail

The theme of the 2010 Annual conference was "Unravelling the Mysteries of Stroke Research".

More than 100 people attended including experienced researchers, stroke clinicians and members of the public, yall eager to to come along and learn more about how research projects are designed and carried out - and crucially who pays for them!

Our Keynote speaker was Louise Wood from NHS R&D, speaking on the topic of "Best Research for Best Health - 4 years on."

Other speakers included Andy Vail and Maria Horne from the Universitry of Manchester, who explained in simple terms how quantitative and qualitative research studies are designed; Professor Charles Wolfe, talked about the Research for Patient Benefit Programme; and Felicity Goodey, who interviewed stroke survivor Joyce Evans about what it feels like to take part in a clinical trial.

During an extended lunch break there was plenty of time for delegates to view the posters and stands and meet other people with an interest in stroke research.several of them brought ideas for a research studies to our "Ask the Expert" surgeries for advice on  research design and the different aspects of stroke research.

North West 3rd Annual Conference PDF Print E-mail

The 3rd Annual Conference of the North West Stroke Local Research Network was held on Friday 30th January 2009 at the Holiday Inn, Liverpool.

The theme was, "Life  After Stroke" and the keynote address was given by Mr Joe Korner, from the Stroke Association. We also welcomed Professor Anne Forster and Professor Tony Kendrick to speak on long-term rehabilitation and on the psychological impact of stroke.

Partner Sites Meeting 2008 PDF Print E-mail
 

The 2008 Partner Sites Meeting was held on Wednesday 17th September at the Harris Park Conference Centre, Preston. Speakers included:

  • Josie Monaghan on the progress of the TRACs study
  • Christine Roffe on the Stroke Oxygen Study
  • Janet Ratcliffe on the interaction between the NW SRN and the cardiac and stroke clinical networks
  • Margaret Cooper on the relatonship with the Comprehensive Local Research Networks
